Barclays’ double boost for St Catherine’s!
The team from Barclays Bank in Preston have celebrated another successful year of supporting St Catherine’s Hospice – handing over a cheque for an incredible £20,000!
Members of staff have volunteered at various hospice fundraising events throughout the year, including the Symphony at the Tower concerts in the summer and the Christmas Festival at the start of December.
Through the bank’s citizenship programme, each employee can apply for up to £1,000 from the firm in funding – matching £1 for £1 the amount they have raised through their participation in the event.
The scheme has raised an amazing £20,000 this year – with hopes that they will be able to continue working together in the same way next year.
The branch in Fishergate is also supporting the hospice’s seasonal activities – by selling Christmas cards and other festive merchandise, as well as installing their own Light Up A Life Christmas tree where customers can hang dedications in memory of loved ones.
Chris Nelson, manager of the Preston branch, said the team was delivered to be working with such an important local charity.
He said: “The team has really got behind the volunteering and fundraising programme again this year, being inspired in particular by Sharon Darley and Shirley Murrell who have been so encouraging and enthusiastic. They really have led by example.
“We are local people, from the local Preston branch, and it means a lot to us to be involved in our local community. We’re honoured and proud to work with St Catherine’s and to have this connection with a charity which provides such vital services for local people.”
Lynne Whittaker, senior fundraiser at St Catherine’s Hospice, thanked Barclays for their fantastic support over the past 12 months.
She added: “The hospice really couldn’t survive without the hard work and commitment of people like the staff at Barclays and we are so grateful for their wonderful support.”
