Christmas single raises funds for hospice
A new take on the classic song A Winter’s Tale has been released to raise funds for St Catherine’s Hospice.
Our supporter Ian Sharrock of the band Graflex explained: “This all started off with a suggestion from Garth Musk of WA12Radio for a Christmas cover song for 2021. When I mentioned it to my friend Mike Quinn he expressed an interest in singing the lead vocal.
“I then got a message from Mike to say he’d mentioned it to Mike Batt (the composer of A Winter’s Tale), and he can’t wait to hear it!
“I listened to all the cover versions online and they were all very similar to one another. I wanted something totally different. I remembered how Gary Jules stripped “Mad World” (The
Tears For Fears song) right back to piano and little else, which gave me the inspiration to write our version.
“Sam James, my musical partner in Graflex, supplied the vocal harmony on the track, with Paul Atherton and Pete Lowe playing acoustic guitars.
“We’ve had airplay on radio stations around the world, and we are Christmas No. 1 in Artefaktor Radio’s top 20; an internet radio station based in Mexico City.”
- The song can be purchased here, with 100% of the sales going towards the specialist care provided by St Catherine’s.
