Cleaners take to the streets in support of St Catherine’s
A group of professional cleaners swapped their mops and rubber gloves for walking boots as they trekked 12 miles in support of St Catherine’s Hospice.
The Longride-based Fairy God Dusters hiked around the town and to Ribchester and Grimsnargh for their fundraising feat.
Nine of the company’s 12 dusters took part in the challenge, some joined by family and friends to make a team of 15.
Business owner Emma Procter said: “One of our customers was diagnosed with cancer, and the dad of one of our cleaners was cared for at St Catherine’s, which is why we wanted to do something to support the charity.
“The lady we walked for sadly passed away in April, but she was thrilled to see us complete the walk.”
She added: “It was a laugh, and we went to the White Bull at Alston for a meal afterwards which was a nice way to end the walk.”
The group raised more than £2,000 from their efforts, and presented a cheque to the hospice in Lostock Hall. They are now keen to take part in the charity’s Moonlight and Memories Walk on the night of June 4, which this year marks its 10th anniversary.
