Girl Guides step to the beat to raise hospice funds
By Jade Taylorson
Two Girl Guides put their love of dancing and exercise to good use when they organised a sponsored keep fit night in aid of St Catherine’s Hospice.
Niamh Page and Aimee Thompson, members of St Joseph’s Girl Guides in Chorley, organised the event and held it as part of their Tuesday night meeting.
All of their fellow Girl Guides took part and were asked to raise as much money as possible in sponsorship from family and friends.
In total the group raised a brilliant £130 for St Catherine’s through the work-out, which featured an hour-long Zumba-style dance routine and obstacle course, all choreographed by Niamh, aged 14, and Aimee, aged 13.
Both girls are working towards completing their Baden Powell Challenge Award, which is the highest award a Guide can achieve.
Aimee’s Mum was a patient at St Catherine’s three years ago and Niamh’s grandfather was also cared for at the hospice, so they were keen to use the challenge as a way to show their support.
They said: “We chose this charity because it is close to both of our hearts for many reasons and we wanted to support it as best we could.”
