Golfers swung into action to support St Catherine’s Hospice!
Lady golfers at a Lancashire club raised £2,500 to support the work of the St Catherine’s after their captain picked the hospice as her Charity of the Year.
The women from Pleasington Golf Clubraised the impressive total through a variety of events held throughout 2013.
Tracey Mendham, who has just stepped down as the club’s Lady Captain, chose to support St Catherine’sduring her term because of her family’s long-standing association with the charity.
“We have been giving to St Catherine’s for 20 years – we know the excellent work that goes on here and the wonderful care which is provided.
“When my turn came up and it was time to choose a charity to support, the hospice was the natural choice.”
The 12-months of fundraising began in style with a meal and fashion show at the club which raised an amazing £1,000.
They also hosted a golf competition with penalty fines for going in the bunkers, and carried out collections on both the Lady Captain and Lady President Angela Caton’s annual Golf Days.
Loose change collections and a summer ball in August added more funds to the brilliant total.
Tracey said: “I enjoyed every minute of my year as Lady Captain.
“Everyone has been so generous and supportive and I’m thrilled we have raised this money for such a worthwhile cause.”
