Learn to look after body and mind at meditation course
Ameditation course run by St Catherine’s Hospice will equip people with the skills to care for both body and mind in six easy steps.
Course leader Ian Dewar is running the programme over six weekly sessions, teaching people the tools of effective meditation.
It includes an introduction to the ancient art, how to practice it, and how to incorporate the different methods into your daily routine.
Elements will include lessons in breathing techniques and tips on how to achieve a greater awareness of your own body – all building up into a 20 minute routine you can do by yourself at any time or place.
Ian, chaplain at St Catherine’s Hospice, said: “I have taught various types of meditation in different settings for 20 years, and I am continuously amazed at how such a simple and ancient practice can improve people’s lives.
“Perhaps we all have more power than we think.”
Anne Nicholas, assistant director of Preston City Council, took part in the last course at the hospice and found the skills she learnt life-changing.
She said: “I’ve had an opportunity to reflect on what is important for me and for my future,” while clinical psychologist Dr Emma Kenworthy, who also took part, added: “It’s been a really good introduction to meditation and it has helped me to relax and deal better with stressors. I plan to continue with what I’ve learnt.”
The next programme begins on October 10 and continues each Wednesday for six weeks, with no session on October 31.
Each class runs from 5.30pm until 7pm at the hospice in Lostock Lane, Lostock Hall, Preston, PR5 5XU. Registration is £99.
