Leyland Town Team plan 50-mile walking challenge
The Leyland Town Team is donning fancy dress and taking on a two-day walking challenge to raise funds for St Catherine’s and the Leyland Christmas lights appeal.
Chairman Martin Carlin will be joined by Town Team members Mark Croasdale, Jack Godwin and Jon Lee Herbert on the 50-mile trek from Morecambe to Leyland, via Blackpool, on 12th and 13th November.
Martin said: “We do something different each year to raise money for the Light up Leyland at Christmas campaign, which this year is on 27th November. St Catherine’s is close to a lot of people’s hearts so we wanted to do something for this much-needed local charity too.
“We’ll be walking for around nine and a half hours on the first day and eight hours on the second, and all in fancy dress! So far we have costumes to dress up as David Bowie, Freddie Mercury and Elvis Presley.”
Norman Cutler, Community Engagement Manager at St Catherine’s Hospice, said: “The Leyland Town Team and Leyland Festival are great supporters of St Catherine’s, and we’re incredibly grateful that they’re fundraising for us as part of their Christmas lights campaign this year.
“We’re looking forward to seeing Martin, Jack, Mark and Jon in fancy dress as they take on this gruelling two-day walking challenge – and we hope the weather is kind to them!
“I’d like to thank the team for thinking of us at this time – it is only thanks to amazing supporters like them that our charity is able to provide specialist palliative and end-of-life care at the hospice and in people’s own homes now and in the future.”
