Lily and Annie’s incredible fundraising run
Two very determined sisters who set themselves a charity challenge during lockdown have smashed their mileage and fundraising targets!
Lily and Annie Bamford have covered the length of two marathons and raised almost £2,000 for St Catherine’s Hospice in honour of their amazing aunties.
Eight-year-old Lily came up with the idea to run 25 miles and raise £25 throughout February with her six-year-old sister. In the end they became determined to push themselves further and ran a fantastic 52 miles, donating an incredible £1,851 to the Lostock Hall hospice.
Their proud mum Louise said: “Back in January after hearing so much daily bad news regarding coronavirus and cancer, Lily decided that she wanted to do something to make a difference. She thought little girls couldn’t do anything to spark a change for the best but decided to set herself and Annie a running challenge.
“Throughout February they wanted to try and run 25 miles in aid of St Catherine’s and set themselves a fundraising target of £25. Since then, the girls have covered a total of 52 miles and raised a whopping £1,851 with donations still coming in!
“One of their highlights was being interviewed live on BBC Radio Lancashire in the hope of spreading the word further and raising more funds. The girls chose St Catherine’s Hospice because the charity recently provided care and support for their aunties who had very short battles with cancer.”
St Catherine’s Community Engagement Manager Norman Cutler said: “Lily and Annie are truly inspirational and we’re so grateful for their brilliant fundraising efforts.
“They used their time in lockdown to really make the days count and do something positive, and we’re delighted that they have chosen to support St Catherine’s; raising not only much-needed funds for us at this time, but raising awareness of our work in the local community too.
“Our sincere thanks go out to these two remarkable young ladies who have literally gone the extra mile for a worthy cause.”
