Liz’ loss is hospice’s gain as she completes sponsored slim for St Catherine’s!
A woman who lost 25lbs in 20 weeks raised more than £600 for St Catherine’s Hospice through a sponsored slimin memory of her much-loved Mum.
Liz Selby, whose father Peter Taylor is a trustee of the hospice, was determined to get in shape after gaining weight following the death of her mum Suzanne – and decided to do it in the name of a good cause.
She set herself the challenge of losing 20lbs in 20 weeks – and in the end exceeded her target by 5lbs!
Along the way the mum-of-two from Penwortham raised a total of £637.50 in sponsorship, which will help St Catherine’s fund its specialised care for local people affected by life-limiting illnesses.
Liz, a stylist at Alan Joyce Hair Design in Preston, said: “I know about the wonderful work St Catherine’s does through my dad who is heavily involved through the board of trustees.
“We lost my Mum to bowel cancer last year and I thought the sponsored slim would be a nice thing to do in her memory.
“I had put weight on in the run up to her death last September – it was obviously a stressful time after she’d been given the diagnosis the condition was incurable. And then after she passed away, I carried on using food as a bit of a comfort.
“By March this year I was determined to do something about it for my health, and I thought why not combine it with doing something for such a great charity too? I think knowing that people were sponsoring me, as well as all the fantastic support I’ve received from family, friends and customers, has really helped motivate me and encouraged me to succeed.”
Now Liz has handed over the money to the hospice but is continuing with her new healthy lifestyle – which includes working out regularly at the gym as well as sticking to a balanced diet – with the aim of shaping up even further.
Liz said: “I’m so pleased to have raised this great amount for St Catherine’s and would like to thank everyone who sponsored me. “I feel the best I have in ages and I know my Mum would be really proud.”
