BLOG: Oliver’s incredible London Marathon experience
Oliver Drury is a Corporate Finance professional, currently based in Manchester with family and friends in Preston. He’s completed this year’s London Marathon in support of St Catherine’s.
Just over three weeks have passed since the marathon which looking back feels a bit of a blur!
In typical British weather fashion, the rain set in just as the marathon started and the thought of 26.2 miles to get through whilst drenched was certainly daunting. All was going to plan for the first half marathon and as I ventured through the city the crowds seemed to get bigger and lounder which acted as a great distraction as the pain started to creep in.
It wasn’t until I hit the 20-mile mark when it got really tough. Fortunately, I was able to smile through the pain and with the support of friends, family and strangers alike I made it over the line with a personal best, 11 minutes faster than my previous PB which I honestly could not believe!
To have had the opportunity to run and raise donations for St Catherine’s has been an incredible experience and I’m honoured I was able to raise awareness for such a worthy cause.
Thank you for all your support!
