Pauline looks forward to long overdue holiday after hospice lottery win
A retired hospice worker couldn’t believe her luck when she won £2,000 in the charity’s very own lottery.
Pauline Fazackerley worked as a physiotherapist at St Catherine’s Hospice, retiring in 2010 to embark on a ‘gap year’ around the world, after being inspired to live life to the full.
She’s now excited at the prospect of visiting more countries with her winnings when the restrictions are lifted. She’s given some of her cash prize to her five grandchildren, and made a generous donation to St Catherine’s as well.
“It was such a privilege and a pleasure to work at the hospice,” Pauline said. “It really is a happy place, and it’s so important to me that the care provided is about helping people to live well. It’s not about dying; it’s about living and making the most of the time you have.
“I’ve been very lucky to visit some amazing places. We like cruises and we’ve been to places like America, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam and Australia, so it will be nice to go on holiday again when we can, and I’m saving some spending money for that.”
Pauline also volunteers her time with the hospice’s craft group creating unique gifts, decorations and homeware to raise funds, and helps with the bereavement group run by her former colleagues in the Support Team.
“Playing the lottery costs just £1 a week and it’s a really good way to support this amazing place,” she said. “I was completely surprised when I won, I didn’t expect it at all!
“I also buy gift vouchers for the St Catherine’s lottery for my friends and family. I think it’s a brilliant idea and gives them a chance of winning too.”
- Becoming a member of the hospice’s lottery costs just £1 a week, and there’s a weekly £2,000 jackpot plus other cash prizes, including a rollover which can reach more than £5,000. To sign up, click here or call 01772 629171.
