St Catherine’s Hospice awarded first place in the business category of Lostock Hall in Bloom 2016
Gardeners at St Catherine’s Hospice are celebrating this week after being awarded first place in the Best Business category, in the first Lostock Hall in Bloom competition.
The community-based competition launched by South Ribble Borough Council aimed to encourage communities and individuals to care for their local environment, through imaginative planting.
One of the judges, Councillor Karen Walton, said that the quality of entries was impressive and said that St Catherine’s gardens make it a special place.
She said: “There is so much diversity involved in the hospice, St Catherine’s Park and The Mill café. No matter what time of year it is, the grounds are always looking beautiful.”
She visited the Lostock Hall hospice with council colleagues to present the award and a garden centre gift voucher to the charity’s maintenance team.
Gardener Mick Langtree said that he’s very happy the team won the award, he has a real passion for gardening and hopes that the award encourages people to enjoy the grounds.
Maintenance Manager, Steve Webster, said: “The hospice grounds are amazingly beautiful, and through hard work, experience and dedication they are very well kept by all the team.
“It’s great for Mick and his team to be recognised and awarded for their efforts – they do an amazing job! We are delighted to win the award and I’m very proud of the team and also to be part of something special”
