Talented Tony uses skills to support St Catherine’s
A talented artist with a passion for patterns used his creativity to support St Catherine’s by selling his work to raise funds.
Tony Hart said he needed ‘something to keep him busy’ following the death of his wife Frances at the hospice this summer.
A fan of zentangles, Tony created a series of 22 bookmark designs, as well as framed maps and letters of the alphabet customised with the abstract patterns.
Tony, from Penwortham, has had stalls at Longton Market’s monthly craft fair over the past few months, and also showcased his work at the St Catherine’s Christmas Festival craft fair over the first weekend in December.
In total he has raised a fantastic £300 for the hospice, largely generated through sales of his work.
The sum also includes £18.60 found in spare change on the street over the course of this year. He has made it his mission for more than 20 years to collect any coins or cash that he finds, and then donates it to a local charity.
Tony said: “It was wonderful the way staff at St Catherine’s looked after Frances.
“It was a really pleasant time when she was here and I’ve got some lovely memories of being together at St Catherine’s.
“I’m pleased to have been able to make this donation to support their work, helping others to have access to the same care and support.”
