Tuk-tuk challenge to raise funds for St Catherine’s
Friends will travel 350 miles around Wales in the UK’s first ever tuk tuk rally
Hospice supporters Stuart Richards and Mick Appleby are taking on a 350 mile rally around Wales – in a tuk-tuk!
The friends – aka The Grumpy Tukkers – are taking part in the first ever UK Tuk Tuk Challenge and are hoping to raise some funds for St Catherine’s as they go.
It’s not the first time Stuart – whose wife Suzanne volunteers in our Longton shop – has taken on a challenge for us. A few years ago he and a group of friends, including Mick’s wife Julie, walked from Leeds to Liverpool via the canal network, raising an incredible £9,000.
The couple imported the tuk-tuk – decked out in authentic Mumbai taxi colours – a few years ago. Stuart, who used to travel a lot with his work, fell in love with them on his trips to India and decided he must get one of his own.
Suzanne said: “This will certainly be the longest trip it’s ever done!
“At least the breeze will keep them cool in this warm weather, although the flash floods that have been forecast for Wales could prove a bit of a challenge!
“Stuart is really pleased to be doing something to support the hospice again and I’m sure they’ll have lots of fun in the process.”
