Symptom management
The management of pain and other symptoms is very important in end of life care.
To patients, regardless of the care setting, the decline in their health can be very frightening and they look to their carers to help them through this period.
All health care professionals who care for dying patients have a responsibility to ensure they have enough knowledge and skills to manage the key symptoms that may occur in the last few days of life. This includes understanding that those symptoms can often be multifaceted such as physical, psychological, social and spiritual.
Here at St Catherine’s we have a number of courses to enable you to gain the appropriate skills and knowledge to identify those difficult symptoms and build the confidence to manage them. You will also learn about who to liaise with to get appropriate support, advice and up to date guidance. Please see below for details of our upcoming study sessions, including our Symptom Management Masterclass.
We also operate a 24/7 advice line for health care professionals. If you need advice about or support with a patient under your care, you can contact the Advice Line on 01772 629171 any time of the day or night.
